Application process for Vacation Schemes and Training Contracts

Applications for our 2014 Training Contracts will remain open until 31 July 2012. Click here to commence your application.

The application process for a Vacation Scheme or Training Contract is exactly the same at the beginning…

It starts with the online application form, we use the system called ‘Apply4Law’ so if you apply to any other firms who use this system as well you can store your personal and academic details to save you time.

In 2010, we introduced psychometric tests to our application process. Once you’ve completed the online form you will be emailed and invited to complete the first of two psychometric test (see our FAQs on psychometric tests).

First of all is a verbal reasoning test. You will be notified immediately if you have passed or failed this test. If you pass this test then you will be invited to complete an inductive reasoning test. You can view practice tests at the SHL website.

Application process

If you pass both tests then your application form will be passed to our well-trained team of assessors. All assessors are qualified lawyers who are "blind" to your personal details and only see the answers to your qualitative questions. Your application form may be assessed by up to three different assessors.

If your application form scores over a threshold number of points then you will be invited to an assessment centre.

If you are unsuccessful at assessment centre you will be offered an hour of our time to go through your feedback in detail over the telephone (again we are proud of this best practice).

If you are successful at the assessment centre then you will be invited to our vacation scheme or if you are only applying for a Training Contract then you will be invited to a final partner interview round.

If you attend a vacation scheme then you will be given your feedback at the end of the scheme. If your feedback is very positive you will be invited to a final partner interview round as the last stage of the process, we normally let people know the outcome the day after and offer feedback.
